On October 23rd, over 220 veteran hikers and dedicated volunteers gathered in Round Rock, Texas to hike for the Irreverent Warrior cause - prevent Veteran suicide through connection, camaraderie, and humor.

The hike kicked off at the American Legion George Johns Post 447 in the heart of Round Rock (one of the BIGGEST local supporters of the IW mission). Hikers got to enjoy complementary breakfast burritos and coffee courtesy of Breach or Bypass, another great supporter every year.
Our hike escorts for the day were the Round Rock Fire Department, Local Constables and HUUMV escort, all of who were overwhelmingly supportive and accommodating all throughout the day. From kickoff, the hike made its first stop at another of our local sponsors, CHASCO, followed by the trek to Raab Park for lunch and lawn games.
After lunch, the route took hikers on a scenic walk along Creekside Trail and then on into downtown for group photos in front of the famous Round Rock water tower. That was followed by a quick and fun stop at The Flats, a local downtown bar that has been (yet another) massive supporter of this hike year after year. After winding back through downtown, we made our final stop at the Round Rock Veterans Memorial - for another photo op, of course - before ending back at the American Legion to finish out the day.
The mission of every IW hike is the same – prevent veteran suicide by bringing vets together with humor and camaraderie. This hike was the perfect representation of that mission.
Every year, the goal of the Round Rock hike is to keep things simple so there's more room for open conversation and connection among hikers. This year, we had a lot of first-timers, so that structure allowed for so many new friendships to be made. It was particularly special to see a lot of active-duty servicemembers at this hike - seeing the support and community that waits for them on the other side is a really powerful piece of the IW mission. All day long, hikers were exchanging information, making plans, taking pictures... it was a perfect representation of why IW exists.
Thank you to all the local businesses and individuals who provided generous donations, hosted us for stops along the hike, or were there with us at step-off to support the cause!
All three of our local primary stops generously provided free food and water for the entire hike - and welcomed us with open arms. A huge shout out to all three of these local staples for their immense support.
