On December 4th, a great-looking group of veterans and volunteers gathered in Vegas (baby) to hike for the Irreverent Warrior cause - prevent Veteran suicide through connection, camaraderie, and humor.

The hike took place on the Vegas strip (obviously), with some stops along the way at landmarks like the Vegas sign, the Paris casino, Mirage waterfall, and the Bellagio foundation (where we hit the water show just in time for a photo opp.) We happened to host the hike the same week the National Rodeo Finals were in town, and that crowd loves their veterans because the cheering and support from bystanders all day was unreal.
Stops along the way included The Leatherneck Club - also the hosts of our meet and greet and afterparty. They provide a veteran experience like no other here in Vegas, so huge shout-outs to this great business!
During the lunch break hikers got to flex their competitive muscles in a handful of lawn games, including knock out cornhole where the winner received 3 tickets to the George Straight concert taking place that night.
"MIssion success. Mission complete."
The mission of every IW hike is the same – prevent veteran suicide by bringing vets together with humor and camaraderie. This hike was the perfect representation of that mission.
The local support we received for this hike was truly overwhelming. From the local businesses that hosted us for stops, to the local VFW, to the local veteran newspaper coming out and doing a story on the hike - we felt the love all day. There's always camaraderie between hikers, but when that extends through into the locals and the community.., there's nothing like it. Tons of civilians were asking to take pictures with hikers, were relentlessly cheering us on as we passed, and the crowd of people at the Vegas sign waiting for their own photo opps were more than happy to send us to the front of the line so we could get ours.
There were - of course- plenty of comic relief moments, too - including the hiker that showed up in a full T-Rex costume and donned it for the entire hike. Welcome to Vegas.
Thank you to all the local businesses and individuals who provided generous donations, hosted us for stops along the hike, or were there with us at step-off to support the cause!
