On August 14th, over 110 veteran hikers and dedicated volunteers gathered in Kansas City to hike for the Irreverent Warrior cause - prevent Veteran suicide through connection, camaraderie, and humor.
VET Tv is the proud National Sponsor for Irreverent Warriors in 2021. In addition to a $25,000 donation matching initiative, every ticket to an IW Silkies Hike comes with a free month subscription to VET Tv. REDEEM yours using code 2021KCMO.
The hike appropriately started at Liberty Memorial, the largest WWII museum in the world. From there, hikers made their way to the historical Union Station - a local landmark known for all the historical figures that have traveled through it, including famous Gangster Fred Nash (where he also had his ultimate showdown with the FBI.)
The hike route wound all through downtown Kansas City and through the Crossroads district, with stops along the way at great local hangouts like vintage arcade bar Up Down, a new virtual reality bar Double Tap KC, the Pizza Bar and the newly opened, veteran-owned Red Sash Brewing (who also hosted our Friday Night Meet and Greet and absolutely killed it!)
"A great time, rain or shine."
The mission of every IW hike is the same – prevent veteran suicide by bringing vets together with humor and camaraderie. This hike was the perfect representation of that mission.
We brought the KC veteran community together bigger and better than ever before. We had over a dozen veterans who are new to the area show up and make connections that will last for years to come. You just can't beat that.
Thank you to all the local businesses and individuals who provided generous donations, hosted us for stops along the hike, or were there with us at step-off to support the cause!
Up Down - for the great service and atmosphere and service.
Double Tap KC - for going above and beyond on their hospitality during our stop.
Pizza Bar - for opening up early just for the hike so we could have our lunch stop there.
Red Sash Brewing - a new local brewery that have been open less than a month. They hosted our Friday night Meet & Greet and absolutely killed it!
